How To Make French Press Coffee

French Press is one of the most easiest, least expensive ways to make delicious cup of coffee at home. Welcome to our step-by-step guide on how to make French press coffee.

Follow these steps to make a rich, flavourful delicious cup of French press coffee.

Step 1: Measure Coffee Beans

To start, decide how much coffee you'd like. A basic guideline is 1 gram of coffee for every 15 ml of water, but feel free to adjust. If you have pre-ground coffee and no scale, use 2 tablespoons per cup. However, we recommend a coffee grinder for rich and, more flavorful cup of coffee.

Step 2: Grind Coffee Beans

Grind your coffee beans at a coarse setting. The grind size should be slightly coarser than table salt. Use a good quality grinder for the most consistent results.

Step 3: Boil Water

To make French Press coffee, the water needs to be between 195 and 200 degrees Fahrenheit(90 to 95 celsius). Use a thermometer to check the temperature.

Step 4: Preheat French Press

While the water is heating, pour some hot water into the French press to preheat it. This helps maintain the coffee's temperature during coffee making. After the French press is preheated, remove the hot water.

Step 5: Add Coffee Grounds

Put the coffee grounds into the preheated French press. Use the amount of coffee you measured earlier, following the recommended ratio.

Step 6: Start the Bloom

Pour some hot water over the coffee grounds until they're all wet. This initial pour is called the "bloom" and it enhances the flavour extraction. Let it bloom for about 30 seconds.

Step 7: Stir the Bloom

Using a spoon, gently stir the coffee grounds and water to ensure even saturation.

Step 8: Add the Remaining Water

After stirring, pour the rest of the hot water over the coffee grounds.

Step 9: Place the Lid and Wait

Put the lid on the French press with the plunger up to keep it warm. Set a timer for four minutes and let the coffee sit.

Step 10: Open the Lid

After waiting for four minutes, take a spoon and gently break the top layer that formed on the coffee's surface. This helps release more of the aromatic oils and flavors.

Step 11: Press Down Slowly

Now it's time to press down the plunger slowly and steadily. It should take about 20 seconds to press the plunger all the way down.

Step 12: Pour and Enjoy

Pour your freshly brewed French press coffee into your favorite mug and savor the rich aroma. Remember to clean your French press thoroughly after each use.

Additional Tips:

  • Experiment with the coffee-to-water ratio and brewing time to adjust the strength of your brew.
  • Use freshly roasted coffee beans for the best flavor and enjoy the aroma of freshly ground coffee.
